Gleevec is brand name of Imatinib. Imatinib is a derivative of 2-phenylaminopyrimidine (CH2SO3H). Studies in cell cultures of CML patients have shown that Gleevec suppresses the growth of Ph-positive cells, with almost no effect on Ph-negative cells.
