What is a Personal Licence?

A personal licence is granted to an individual by the relevant licensing authority. This licence allows the holder to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol according to the terms of the premises licence. The application for a personal licence must be submitted to the licensing authority of the council area where the applicant resides. Once issued, the authority remains the relevant authority even if the licence holder moves to another area. The personal licence is issued in two parts: a plastic card featuring the holder's name and photograph, and a paper section.
