Yazd province, located in central Iran, is bordered by several other provinces, including Isfahan, Khorasan, Fars, and Kerman. The city of Yazd lies in a dry valley between the Shirkuh and Kharaneq mountains, experiencing a semi-desert climate with hot summers and cold winters. Due to limited water resources, the region relies on qanats and deep wells, making industry, particularly textiles, carpets, and handicrafts, more prominent than agriculture.
One of Iran's oldest cities, Yazd has a rich history, especially as a center for Zoroastrianism, and is believed to have been founded by Yazdgerd of the Sassanian dynasty. The city’s unique architecture, made of sun-dried bricks and mud, is designed to withstand extreme temperatures. Yazd is also renowned for its handicrafts, including carpets, silk fabrics, and pastries, and has been home to many prominent thinkers and scholars throughout history.
