1. MUSIC IN THE SQUARE

We are fortunate our hotel is located on one of the most beautiful and iconic squares in Sheffield, Leopold Square. Named for Prince Leopold, the youngest son of Queen Victoria, the square is a part of our history. Now home to some of the best restaurants in the city, its Grade II listed buildings were once home to a grammar school. It’s a popular place to enjoy a meal or a drink and during the summer with a range of open-air concerts to enjoy too. Sit in the outdoor terrace of the hotel and listen to a range of curated performances, free to enjoy each weekend from 2pm until 4.30pm and until 10pm on Bank Holidays. We can’t think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon or evening.

2. MARKET EVENTS IN SHEFFIELD

Nothing says summer like the return of markets. Sheffield has a vibrant market scene with everything from large-scale to community markets popping up across the city. Enjoy regular markets like Peddler in Kelham Island and Quayside at Victoria Quays alongside the inner-city flower market, Pollen in Castlegate. There are seasonal markets such as the ever popular Nether Edge Farmers’ Market and Sharrow Vale Road Market and lots of pop events too which often appear in some unique spaces like Sheffield Cathedral. Sheffield’s Moor Market is a constant on the market scene, open 6 days a week (closed on Sundays) with over 90 local and independent traders. Pick up something unique to remember a great time spent in Sheffield.

3. FAMILY TIME IN SHEFFIELD

We know the hardship of parents during the summer months, constantly thinking of new ways to entertain their little ones! Luckily, there are lots of ways to entertain children in and around Sheffield with all age groups covered. Sheffield Fayre is an all-city event which is now in its 20th year. It usually takes place on the August bank holiday and you can enjoy everything from amusement rides to kite-flying demonstrations.

4. EVENTS IN SHEFFIELD

There are things to do in Sheffield every week, you just have to know where to look. Check local and community Facebook groups, theatre listings and newspapers for the latest events that you otherwise might miss. Alongside the nation, Sheffield will take part in a moment of history when the city marks the Coronation of HM King Charles III with a two-day celebration in the Peace Gardens on the 6th & 7th of May. Eurovision is in the UK this year and if you can’t make it to Liverpool, you can enjoy it from a giant screen on Devonshire Green broadcasting all the live action alongside a programme of live entertainment of street performers, dance acts, live music and more.

5. FESTIVAL OF DEBATE

While it’s not a traditional summer event, the popular Festival of Debate returns to South Yorkshire in 2023. It’s the largest annual non-partisan politics festival in the UK, with over 60 events taking place in various venues across Sheffield up until to 26th May. Attendees can look forward to a diverse programme of events and some very special keynote speakers. Many events are ticketed but free and others have low admission rates to encourage participation. It’s an interesting and insightful festival and something different to the normal summer festivals you might be used to.
