Named for Prince Leopold, the youngest son of Queen Victoria, the square is a part of our history. It’s a popular place to enjoy a meal or a drink and during the summer with a range of open-air concerts to enjoy too. Alongside the nation, Sheffield will take part in a moment of history when the city marks the Coronation of HM King Charles III with a two-day celebration in the Peace Gardens on the 6th & 7th of May. Eurovision is in the UK this year and if you can’t make it to Liverpool, you can enjoy it from a giant screen on Devonshire Green broadcasting all the live action alongside a programme of live entertainment of street performers, dance acts, live music and more.
5. FESTIVAL OF DEBATE
While it’s not a traditional summer event, the popular Festival of Debate returns to South Yorkshire in 2023. It’s the largest annual non-partisan politics festival in the UK, with over 60 events taking place in various venues across Sheffield up until to 26th May. Attendees can look forward to a diverse programme of events and some very special keynote speakers. Many events are ticketed but free and others have low admission rates to encourage participation. It’s an interesting and insightful festival and something different to the normal summer festivals you might be used to.
