Wayanad is a hill station district in Kerala,India and it is approximately 300 kilometers away from Bangalore and about 90 kilometers from Calicut,Kerala. It is bordered by Karnataka and Tamilnadu.It is set high in the western ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 meters.

Introduction

There are different seasons to visit Wayanad.The first and the peak season is in Winter from October to February when the weather is pleasant and attracts the highest number of tourists.Second is the medium crowded season.It is in the Summer from March to May.Third is the low season in the Monsoon from June to September.

If you are coming from Bangalore or Mysore, then by starting early you can cover the Adapal Caves on the same day and retire back to your state.

The best places to stay where you can find plenty of hotels and resorts are as follows.The first one is Sulthan Bathury.It is the first major town after crossing Karnataka border.The second one is Kalpetta,the District Headquarters.The third is the Vythiri.Visit the Tourist destinations using a Taxi that will cost with ease.Using own cars will waste the time in locating the tourist spots and car parkings.

Places to visit:

Banasura sagar Dam

It is built on the tributary of the Kabini River.Banasura sagar Dam is around 25 kilometers drive from Vythiri Village and it takes around 45 minutes to reach.It is the largest earth dam in India and second largest of its kind in Asia with a height of 38.5 meters and length of 685 meters.It is easy to visit this dam in the return journey to Bangalore and the parking charges are Rs.40,entry fee is Rs.40 per person.It is a spectacular place to enjoy the beauty of the lake,walking,boating,speed boating and do Zip Lining.The dam is huge and surrounded by mountains making it a breathtaking view.

Dam zipline

Zipline here costs Rs.300 per person and offers a great view and plus point is that we don't have to walk all the way back and rather reach there in a matter of seconds.

Vythiri village

Vythiri village is a good option to stay.It rains everyday around sunset making the weather very pleasant.If you want to complete the trek and also reach the heart shaped lakeview at the top then the whole day would be required.The trek is rated easy for initial parts but moderately difficult thereafter.Total length of trek is about 4.5kilometers one side.The trek is organized by the forest department so you must reach on time to collect the tickets as only limited number of people are allowed per day.

Kuruvadweep

Like most of the places in Wayanad comes under plastic free zone and there will be a back chip before entering the island.All the using through plastic will be kept with the staff that can be collected once back.The timings are 9am to 4pm and the entry is limited to 575 people in a day.

Car Parking charges are Rs.40 and entry to the island with the Bamboo rough transfer is Rs.80 per person.

The place offers a nature retreat.Some important points regarding Kuruvadweep is when we enter the island there are spots where we can get into the Kabini River water and play.If we want to spend some time and make a picnic with family and friends do plan to visit early and carry some extra clothes.

Lakkidi Viewpoint

Here we will go uphill all the way.There are few good food points near the view point.There is no specific car park area but we can park our car near the view point and spend some time there.

Meenmutty Waterfalls

It is easy to reach and requires only 800 kilometers of walking.They charge Rs.30 per adult person,Rs.15 for children,Rs.60 for foreign tourists,Rs.75 for still cameras.

Tea and Coffee Gardens

This tourist spot was the magnificent tea in coffee gardens on the way from Meenmutty waterfalls to the Vythiri town.

Pookode Lake

Here in this Pookode Lake, you can go boating and have a kids play area.They charge Rs.20 per adult person,Rs.10 for children,Rs.20 for still cameras,Rs.120 for video camera, Rs.100 for two seat pedal boat, Rs.200 for two seat pedal boat,Rs.350 for a rowboat.

Conclusion

Wayanad is a large district and requires at least three to four days to cover all the key tourist attractions.The whole district turns lush green and looks magnificent.Visiting Wayanad once in our lifetime is a real blessing.It is one of the fantastic tourist destinations in the world.
