How to Travel by Train, Bus, and Car from Delhi to Agra

The Yamuna River banks, 130 miles south of New Delhi, are home to Agra, a city renowned for its Mughal heritage and architectural wonders. Along with the nearby cities of Delhi and Jaipur, it is one of the destinations on India's tourist route known as the "Golden Triangle." While it boasts a lot of amazing attractions worth seeing, most visitors come for the Taj Mahal. This well-known mausoleum is well-known all over the world and has been dubbed "the pearl of Muslim art in India" by UNESCO in addition to being named one of the Seven New Wonders of the World.

India has great rail service and a reserved ticketing system, making travel around the country simple even though it may initially seem difficult. Because of how quickly the train travels, if you get a roundtrip ticket, you may visit Agra for a day and return to New Delhi by evening. The cheapest choice is a bus, although the journey is much longer and the cost difference is small. If a traveller wants the least complicated option, they can take a cab or private automobile, which can take three to five hours, depending on traffic.

By Train

Train travel is the most common mode of transportation between Delhi and Agra. If you take the appropriate trains—the fastest of which travels from city to city in just two hours—you can reach the Taj Mahal in a single day from Delhi. Although occasional trains to Agra also leave from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (NZM), which is roughly 20 minutes south of NDLS, Delhi's primary railway station is New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), close to Paharganj. Agra Cantonment (AGC), Agra's primary train station, is about 20 minutes' drive from the Taj Mahal. Use one of the pre-paid taxi or rickshaw kiosks to pay a predetermined fare once you leave the train station.

By Bus

The bus is the most affordable alternative if you're looking for a way to go from Delhi to Agra. RedBus allows you to buy tickets straight from their website and displays schedules for all of the bus providers. Look for buses that indicate "Deluxe" or specifically include air conditioning as an included amenity because standard buses might be packed, sweltering, and stop at several cities along the trip.

Despite the fact that the bus is the cheapest choice, there is not much of a cost difference between it and the train, and the speed and comfort of the train are worth the extra few dollars. The bus, however, is a dependable fallback if you want last-minute tickets and the trains are fully booked.

By Car

Only individuals with extensive driving expertise in India should drive their private car from Delhi to Agra. Driving your own car is the most stressful and dangerous mode of transportation if you are unfamiliar with India's traffic laws or drivers' propensity to break them. The simplest way to go to the Taj Mahal is, however, to hire a private automobile or cab if taking the railway or bus is too troublesome. For a one-way drive in a sedan, costs start at around $40 and increase as the size of the vehicle increases. The trip may take significantly longer than the usual three hours due to the notoriously congested traffic in Delhi.
