Florida justifiably has a reputation as one of the best places in which to enjoy retirement. The Sunshine State continues to draw a phrazle big number of retirees because to its pleasant climate, low cost of living and real estate, abundance of outdoor activities, and wide selection of retirement communities with resort-style facilities. According to the Current Population Survey and the Annual Social and Economic Supplements for 2022 from the United States Census Bureau, about 12 percent of all retirees who relocated to a new state in 2022 selected Florida, making it the top option. In addition, Bankrate has recently placed it seventh on its list of the best places to retire in 2023, giving it strong marks in the areas of health and climate.
Numerous national parks, preserves, and seashores dot the landscape of Florida, and the state's coastlines stretch for hundreds of miles along the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Straits of Florida.
"The beaches are gorgeous and so plentiful in advantages, from the recreational sides, such daily walks along the ocean, to the salty winds and quiet vistas. Even in non-beachfront settings, you have lush, green gardens and vegetation that grow year-round, so you're going to have that constant access to nature, which is extremely compelling," Claudine Léger-Wetzel, vice president of sales and marketing at the Naples-based luxury home builder Stock Development, told Travel + Leisure.
Léger-Wetzel said that retirees choose Florida because of its characteristic lifestyle, which promotes social contact, and because of the state's status as an art hotspot. The ease of living in a master-planned community is another reason why people over the age of 65 like them.
The retiree who values an active lifestyle and the sensation of always being on vacation can find a welcoming home in a master-planned community. According to Michelle Young, director of developer services at Michael Saunders & Company/Luxury Portfolio International, "these offer a built-in social life with book clubs, card games, golf, tennis, pickleball, and walking trails." The phrase "The attraction is the lock-and-go convenience — knowing you can fly to Europe or visit the grandchildren and someone is taking care of your home" is a play on words referencing the ease with which its titular feature may be used to transport the speaker from one location to another. Being near to excellent medical facilities, such as hospitals and clinics, is also an important convenience.
