A doublet is made up of two pieces of material that are usually cemented together at the girdle (the widest part of the stone): if the two pieces are the same, the gem is called a true doublet; if they are different, with the crown (above the girdle) being genuine and the pavilion (below the girdle) being an inferior stone or glass, the gem is called a false doublet.
