The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ on the front of the neck, beneath the voice box. The thyroid gland produces two hormones known as triiodothyronine, or T3, and thyroxine (T4). The gland also generates calcitonin, which aids bone cells in calcium processing and bone formation.
