The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as the CSIR UGC NET, to determine candidates' eligibility for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Lectureships (LS)/Assistant Professor positions in Indian universities and colleges. Candidates who pass the CSIR NET exam are only eligible to become lecturers in the faculties of science and technology. Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences are the five science disciplines covered by the CSIR NET.
