Is lingering gum tenderness normal after a root canal?
I had a root canal on one of my premolars 12 days ago. The tooth itself feels mostly fine now, but the gum around it is still tender to touch and slightly sore when I brush in that area. There’s no redness or swelling that I can see, but the tenderness hasn’t improved much over the last few days. I’m wondering if this is just part of the healing process or if it could mean there’s still some inflammation. Has anyone else had gum soreness last this long after their root canal?

If you’re not seeing redness, swelling, or worsening pain, and the tenderness is at least slowly improving, it’s likely just part of the healing process. But if it persists beyond 3–4 weeks without change, or if new symptoms appear, it’s worth checking with your dentist to make sure there’s no lingering irritation or bite adjustment issue.
