We interrupt our regular apologetics posts to do a brief English lesson for the benefit of our Muslim friends.

In the photo above, not every one of the sheep is actually a sheep. This is because, as you can see, one of them is a wolf.

I bring this up because Muslims frequently (and horribly) misinterpret Jesus' words in Matthew 7, where He says,

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘

      • In the wake of recent Islamist terror attacks, the Regressive Left has once again prioritised the defence of an ideology over the lives of its victims. Armchair experts were quick to pin the Orlando massacre on the perpetrator’s ‘mental health’, thereby propounding the widely misconstrued and exaggerated correlation between mental illness and violence. After all, ableist slurs are inconsequential to the all important task of defending religion. While Salon blamed “toxic masculinity”, others were busy trying to find anything to insinuate that Omar Mateen was gay, thus absolving religion of having divinely sanctioned homophobia for thousands of years. Ironically, religion’s neurosis with sexuality inspires exactly the sort of self-loathing that could drive someone to such extremes. Religious dogma is the numero unoreason why people struggle with their sexuality, often even after marriage.

Anyone who thinks religion has no bearing on the homophobia in it’s flock, should browse through the thousands of vile comments under the Al Jazeera Arabic’s Facebook post on the Orlando story.

Anyone who claims to be a Muslim and kills in the Holy Month of Ramzaan is NOT a Muslim. They are terrorists. Sick minded cowards.Rot in hell

Awkward Historical fact: Battle of Badr was fought by the prophet and his followers on 13th March, 624 CE in the holy month of Ramadan.

In this piece I tackle the most common fallacies propounded by apologists in their hypocritical attempt at dissociating religious ideology from acts of terror.

Disclaimer for bigots: This is an attempt to show a causal link between violence and Islamist ideology. Anyone who thinks that the vast majority of Muslims bear responsibility for the acts of their co-religionists will find no vindication here.

        Terrorism has no religion.
It must be a strange coincidence then, that attacks on abortion clinics in the United States are carried out by far-right Christian conservatives, and not Star Wars cultists; that Potterheads don’t lynch people for eating beef, but Hindutva extremists who consider the life of a bovine to be more sacred than that of a human being do. Similarly, when a zealot opens fire in a cafe yelling ‘Allahu-Akbar’, we can be quite certain it’s not a disgruntled Game of Thrones fan who just saw his favourite character snuffed out by the writers.

Yes, the vast majority of religious folks do not go about murdering people. But that does not absolve religious texts of inspiring the few extremists who do.
When Muslims donate to charity, we attribute their altruism to the third pillar of Islam. Why is it that when another Muslim acts as per the dozens of Quranic edicts which — cast terror in the hearts of disbelievers (3:151), expose them to eternal hellfire (4:56), advocate crucifixion & chopping off extremities (5:33), denounce taking Jews & Christians for friends (5:51), smite their necks and fingers (8:12), slay & besiege idol worshippers (9:5)— his/her actions have “nothing to do with religion”? I am not singling out Islamic scripture here. They are no more violent and bigoted than the Old Testament or the Manusmriti. However, we acknowledge that the inquisition was a product of medieval Christian dogma, and caste atrocities are a product of Hindu texts. Why then, do we excuse Islamic scripture of inspiring Islamists?

        The verses are misinterpreted!
So 20-plus translations of the Quran that are endorsed by the Ulemas, and the many dozen spine chilling verses in them are all misinterpreted? Reputed Islamic scholars such as Pickthall & Maulana Wahiduddin Khan got their arabic wrong, but secular Leftists whose knowledge of the text is restricted to sharing memes of verse 5:32 on Facebook have got it right? This is an argument from ignorance and incredulity, and is normally propounded by folks who have never bothered to read scripture.

The verses have been taken out of context.
Apologists who have read scripture claim that the violent edicts must be seen “in their historical context”, i.e. when the prophet and his followers were at war with the various idolatrous tribes and infidels.
In truth, only a few verses such as 1:191 come with a disclaimer: “begin not hostilities, but if they attack you, then slay them“. The vast majority of violent edicts do not. What historical context justifies verse 4:15 (confine a lewd wife until death) or verse 4:34 (beat your rebellious wife)?

In a morbid hypothetical, if a book penned by a white supremacist were to command its readers to “slay black people wherever you find them, but if they repent and pay their due, then leave them free“ (as Quran 9:5 prescribes for infidels), how many of us would be defending it by citing context?
The ‘context’ argument would make sense if people treated their holy book as a primer on Arabian history. It is a rather fatuitous alibi for a text that is peddled as the immutable word of god.

But the Quran has some very beautiful verses as well.
Of course! Just as Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice has some vile antisemitic rhetoric in Act I, and the sublime ‘Quality of Mercy’ speech by Portia in Act IV. However, only one of these books is considered to be divinely inspired. Therein lies the problem.

It’s not religion, it’s lack of education, disparity. (a.k.a. Malala’s Fallacy):
How many of the 19 hijackers involved in the 9-11 attacks were uneducated or underprivileged? Mohammed Atta was a Cairo University & University of Hamburg alumnus. Wail Al-Shehri was a school teacher from Saudi Arabia. Satam Al-Suqami was a law student at King Saud University. Ziad Jarrah, Hani Hanjour, Majed Moqed— all had a University education. Khaled Mashal, the leader of Hamas holds a BSc in Physics from Kuwait University. You would be hard pressed to find an unschooled individual in the upper echelons of any Islamist terror outfit. ISIS’s social media whizkid Ahmad Abousamra— an overprivileged kid from Boston, went to a private school in Massachusetts.

The destitute, uneducated, persecuted jihadi is a romanticised figment of the Regressive Leftist’s mind. Hardly any terrorist from Boston to Brussels fits that description. What is common to all of them however, is that they were radicalised by Wahabi/ Salafist Imams and Islamist organisations such as the Muslim Brotherhood, financed throughout the world with dinars from the House of Saud.

It’s American Imperialism, western foreign policy & the Iraq Wars that are responsible; not religion. (The Chomsky defence a.k.a. Mehdi Hassan’s Fallacy):
Apart from 12-16 million Christians, there are thousands of Bahai, Zoroastrians, Yazidis and Jews living in Islamic nations. If terrorism were simply a reaction to American imperialism, shouldn’t these minorities also form a fraction of terror outfits? Or are they miraculously shielded from NATO bombs and American policies that affect the middle-east? Surely one disgruntled Zoroastrian would cross the Iranian border and join Hezbollah?

This favourite cliche of the Regressive Left fails to explain another phenomenon— the “everyday terrorism” faced by millions of Muslims in the Islamic world. Was the spontaneous and gruesome lynching of Farkhunda outside an Afghan mosque a product of colonialism? Was the stoning of Roxanneh, the killing of Noor Malleki, the murder of secular bloggers in Bangladesh a result of US foreign policy? What does the violence unleashed against homosexuals, apostates, ‘blasphemers’, against Ahmedi and Hazara Muslims of Pakistan & Afghanistan (who are murdered by Sunni supremacists for not being ‘Muslim enough’) and the systemic genocide of ethnic minorities throughout the Islamic world, have to do with George Bush’s Iraqi misadventure? At some point, Bronze Age belief systems must be held accountable for the atrocities inflicted on its followers.

The Left’s soft bigotry of lower expectations:
When Leftists allege that the ‘West’ brought this jihadist insurgency to the middle-east by toppling it’s dictators, what they are implying is that the Islamic world is only peaceful under the draconian reign of a Saddam, a Gaddafi or Assad. That without these despots, Muslims will only descend into an abyss of Islamist extremism. This is exactly the sort of soft bigotry of lower expectations (borrowing Maajid Nawaz’s phrase) that makes Leftists who support emancipation and equality for European women at home, demand sex-segregated swimming pools for their ‘immigrant Muslim sisters’.

By shutting down genuine criticism of Islamist ideology using the non-word ‘Islamophobia’, Leftists have failed the very people they claim to protect. The Left has actively shielded a totalitarian ideology (Islamism) by conflating it’s criticism with bigotry against a largely peaceful and diverse people (Muslims). By refusing to address the elephant in the living room, Leftists have unwittingly created a vacuum which is now filled by xenophobes like Trump and Farage. We only need to look at Brexit to understand how disconnected and vacuous the Left’s narrative has become, and how it has driven the masses towards the anti-refugee, anti-Muslim lobby on the far-right.

In the process, the Regressive Left has also failed liberal progressive Muslims like Asra Nomani, Irshad Manji and Maajid Nawaz, who are fighting to bring about reform at great personal risk. It is time for true (classical) liberals to stand up and take the fort back from the Left. We must show that it is possible to call out religious ideologies that inspires terror, while at the same time condemn the anti-Muslim bigotry of the far-right. For without identifying the carcinogen i.e. religious extremism, it is impossible to stem the affliction.

Terror Has No Religion - Debunking the Regressive Left's Cliches

      •   Some unbelievers mock the Bible because they cannot understand why Moses' death is written about in a part of the Torah. They claim that Moses could not possibly have written the Book of Deuteronomy because of that passage.

So who did write about Moses' death as it is recorded in Deuteronomy 34?

          Here are three reasonable options:
First, Moses himself could have written those words

Every year as Lent draws closer to its end and Easter approaches, one particularly pernicious and stubborn digital weed in the form of an internet meme seems to spring up and get shared on social media. This particular digital weed is the “This Is Ishtar pronounced Easter” meme. If you’ve been fortunate enough to have avoided it over the past few years, here it is for reference in all its historically inaccurate and wild-eyed conspiracy theorizing ignominy

This wildly inaccurate image and text combo is lofted up as a “gotcha” argument by those who would try to debunk the true meaning and origins of the Easter Resurrection by claiming it originates in, predictably, sex and paganism.

It is the same tired tactic often employed to discredit Christianity – tie it to an ancient and obscure pagan tradition and remove its credibility as something worthy of being celebrated. From Halloween (All Hallow’s Eve) being a Druidic/Wiccan Day of the Dead to Christmas being a Roman Solstice Festival celebrating the birth of the “son”, you’ll see these terribly inaccurate slanders thrown about social media as fact and accepted by the misinformed and impressionable.

But this meme to me is particularly egregious in it’s sheer “wrongness”. It implies that Easter is actually named after a Babylonian fertility goddess named Ishtar; which they claim is pronounced the same as the modern English Easter… and something about eggs and Constantine changing the word…

Wow. What a load of σκύβαλα.

Ok, let’s break this image and its claims down…

          “This is Ishtar”

Okay, great. So far things are fairly accurate. The relief pictured here, known as the Burney Relief (also called the Queen of the Night relief) is widely considered to be an Ancient Babylonian representation of Ishtar (although some scholars believe that the woman depicted might be Lilitu or Ereshkigal). This relief is currently housed in the British Museum in London, but originates from southern Iraq and is nearly 4,000 years old.

          “pronounced Easter”

Nope. That’s just simply untrue. In modern English, the word is pronounced exactly how it looks. –Ishtar > /ˈɪʃtɑːr/. (You can hear it pronounced on The Oxford Dictionary’s website entry for the name here.) Claiming that words that phonetically sound somewhat alike mean the same thing or have the same origin is the obvious sign of a person with no linguistics training or understanding of etymology. That’s like saying “here” and “hear” or “red” and “read” are the same word or developed from the same root.

“Easter is originally the celebration of Ishtar, the Assyrian and Babylonian goddess of fertility and sex.”

Ishtar was a sort of catch-all goddess of love and war and sex, as well as protection, fate, childbirth, marriage, and storms—there’s some fertility in there, like her Greek counterpart Aphrodite. According to the Greek historian Herodotus, her cult practiced sacred prostitution, where women waited at a temple and had sex with a stranger in exchange for a divine blessing.

“Her symbols (like the egg and the bunny)”

Ishtar symbols were the lion, the gate, and the eight-pointed star. Not the egg or the bunny. There are no depictions of her with eggs or bunnies in the archaeological record. The creator of this meme should have sited some sources if he wanted to make this claim.

Were and still are fertility and sex symbols (or did you actually think eggs and bunnies had anything to do with the resurrection?)”

Easter is a celebration Jesus’ crucifixion, death, and resurrection through which we get new life and are reborn. Eggs, rabbits and springtime are symbols of new life and birth. Rabbits, being very fertile, were often used in early Christian art as a sign of fertility and new life. Eggs were used to symbolize creation and rebirth. But this is not exclusive to Christianity. Most cultures viewed eggs, obviously, as a sign of birth fertility… because that is EXACTLY what they are! Of course Christians would use obvious symbols to make obvious parallels.

          According to Scientific America

The Phoenix (that dies and is reborn) was adopted as a Christian symbol in the first century AD. It appears on funeral stones in early Christian art, churches, religious paintings, and stonework. The egg from which it (The Phoenix) rose has become our Easter egg. As with many symbols, the Easter egg has continued to shift. When the Lenten fast was adopted in the third and fourth centuries, observant Christians abstained from dairy products, including milk, cheese, butter, and eggs. In England, on the Saturday before Lent, it was common practice for children to go from door to door to beg for eggs—a last treat before the fast began.

In the Christian East, painting Easter eggs is an especially beloved tradition. Orthodox and Eastern Catholics have the tradition of dying eggs red to represent the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the cross. The eggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the Paschal vigil and distributed to the people. The shell of the egg represents the sealed Tomb of Christ, and cracking the shell represents Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

Just because one culture adopts a thing as a symbol, it does not mean another culture cannot independently adopt the same things as a symbol of something else. To argue otherwise is the fallacy of false cause. For example, in the Chinese zodiac, the monkey is a sign of wisdom, where in the west, the monkey is a sign of foolishness as in “monkeying around”.

“After Constantine decided to Christianize the Empire, Easter was changed to represent Jesus.”

Constantine the Great seems to have been adopted as the Patron Saint of the misinformed conspiracy theorist. One fundamental point that this image glosses over is that Constantine would never have used or heard the the word Easter. The word Easter, let alone the English language didn’t even exist yet in his time. Constantine would have spoken Latin and Greek. The word Constantine would have used to refer to the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ would have been Πάσχα, or “Pascha”.

In the Hebrew, Passover is Pesach. The Greek form is simply a transliteration and takes the form Pascha. Virtually ALL languages refer to Easter as either a transliterated form ofpascha or otherwise use resurrection in the name. English and German stand apart in their use of Easter (Ostern) to refer to the celebration of the Resurrection.

Names derived from the Hebrew Pesach (Passover):

          • Bulgarian – Paskha
          • Danish – Paaske
          • Dutch – Pasen
          • Finnish – Pääsiäinen
          • French – Pâques
          • Indonesian – Paskah
          • Italian – Pasqua
          • Lower Rhine German – Paisken
          • Norwegian – Påske
          • Portuguese – Páscoa
          • Romanian – Pasti
          • Russian – Paskha
          • Scottish Gaelic – Càisg
          • Spanish – Pascua
          • Swedish – Påsk
          • Welsh – Pasg

          Via EWTN

According to St. Bede (d. 735), the great historian of the Middle Ages, the title English word “Easter” seems to originate in English around the eighth century A.D. The word Easter is derived from the word <Eoster>, the name of the Teutonic goddess of the rising light of day and Spring, and the annual sacrifices associated with her. The Christian celebration of the Resurrection occurred during a month named for this goddess, which today is known as April.

          Saint Bede wrote:

“Eosturmanath has a name which is now translated “Paschal month,” and which was once called after a goddess of theirs named Eostre, in whose honour feasts were celebrated in that month. Now they designate that Paschal season by her name, calling the joys of the new rite by the time-honoured name of the old observance.”

Another possibility which arises from more recent research suggests the early Church referred to Easter week as <hebdomada alba> (“white week”), from the white garments worn by the newly baptized. Some mistranslated the word to mean “the shining light of day” or “the shining dawn,” and therefore used the Teutonic root <eostarun>, the Old German plural for “dawn” (where we get the modern English word ‘East’ from where the ‘Sun Rises'”, as the basis for the German <Ostern> and for the English equivalent “Easter”. In early English translations of the Bible made by Tyndale and Coverdale, the word “Easter” was substituted for the word “Passover,” in some verses.

Even though the etymological root of “Easter” may be linked to the name of a pagan goddess or pagan ceremonies, the feast which the word describes is Christian without question. Exactly why the English language did not utilize to the Hebrew-Greek-Latin root is a mystery.

“But at its roots, Easter is all about celebrating fertility and sex”

This final sentence likely betrays the memes author’s intentions in spreading these falsehoods. It shows the obsessive modern tendency to make EVERYTHING about sex. It would seem that this was an attempt to discredit Christianity and its outdated morality about sex.

But NO. Easter is not about sex. It is about the the fulfillment of God’s salvific plan through the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus of Nazareth on Good Friday and His triumph over death on Easter Sunday. To say that the Christian celebration of Easter is anything else, regardless of some spurious etymological claims, is simply false.

Some Muslims who are unfamiliar with the Bible claim that whenever the Divine Title Son of God is applied to Jesus, it really doesn't mean anything because Jesus is just one of very many of God's sons and daughters in the Bible.

But those who have read and studied the Bible know that this claim  just cannot stand up to scrutiny. The Scriptural text is abundantly clear in the distinctions it

            • In the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, the ruins of a 16th century colonial church have re-emerged from a reservoir due to the lack of rain. A severe drought has affected the Grijalba river, which feeds the Nezahualcoyotl reservoir, dropping the water level by 75 feet.

The church, known locally as “The Temple of Santiago/Quechula” was constructed in 1564 by a group of monks headed by Friar Bartolome de la Casas, who arrived in the region inhabited by the Zoque people in the mid-16th century.

It was abandonded after an outbreak of the plague between 1773 to 1776. In 1966 a dam was completed which created the Nezahualcoyotl reservoir that flooded the Church.

In the first century AD, St.Thomas, started spreading christianity in the state of kerala, which is on the west coast of India. By preaching about Lord Jesus, he started to draw the Indian people towards Christianity. During that period. St.Thomas started healing many people from deadly diseases. By doing those miraculous things, his fame began to spread across Kerala and neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

During the first century A.D., the southern tip of India, was under the regime of Pandya Ruler Kandappa Rasa. The king and his family was suffering from a lot of diseases. During this period, he came to know about the miraculous power of St.Thomas through the traders who used to visit Kerala for selling their spices. On hearing about St.Thomas, the king left for Kerala immediately to meet him and described his sufferings and brought St.Thomas to Tamil Nadu.

With the blessing of Lord Jesus, St.Thomas healed the sufferings of King and his family. The king was surprised by the miraculous powers of St.Thomas.

St.Thomas preached Christianity to the King and his followers and they soon started following Christianity. St.Thomas renamed the King as " Sabor ".

As a mark of respect, the King donated 3 cents of land to St.Thomas to build a church for Mother Mary. As per tradition in those days, St.Thomas built the church with palm leaves. This piece of land was the FIRST in INDIA to be donated to Christianity.

In this church, St.Thomas embibed a holy cross made of wood and instructed the people to pray the cross. St.Thomas marked the letters INRI on the top portion of the cross. The church built on 3 cents of land donated to St.Thomas is the " Athisaya Manalmatha Church ".

Wherever St.Thomas went, he preached people about Lord Jesus and Mother Mary's miracles. His preachings has been the reason for the fame of Mother Mary in India. This is the history of Manalmatha Church and it is dated back to 2002 years.

The statue of Mother Mary in this church is made of wood. But there is no proof, literature as to how this statue came to this church.

After the death of St.Thomas, St.Xavier started preaching Christianity in India. He started preaching Holy Bible in Southern part of Tamil Nadu. During that time he was preaching in Manapadu Malai. St.Xavier came to know about the church of Manalmatha in Kanakkan Kudieruppu and he also came to know that the Christians in Kanakkan Kudieruppu were all followers of St.Thomas and he was very eager to visit the " Athisaya Manalmatha church ".

When St.Xavier came to see Manalmatha Church, a lady was seen weeping with her dead son besides her. She was praying to mother mary to give life to her son. Seeing this St.Xavier started praying to mother Mary and dead boy got back his life. This young boy became a disciple of St.Xavier and this incident has been hand written by St.Xavier himself in his diary which is kept in Rome.

Christianity which came into existence in Kanakkan Kudieruppu, started to spread across several villages. Christianity was particularly very popular in a village called " Vadalivilai ". St.Xavier who came to Vadalivilai was surprised by the faith shown by the people in this village towards Christianity. All Christians in this village lived together in unity. Today this village is called : SOKKAN KUDIERUPPU ".

              • Why the difference in Crucifixion Time between John and Mark? Actually there is none. 6th Hour mentioned by John refers to the Roman time and the Third Hour mentioned by Mark is according to the Hebrew Clock. Mark mentions the exact Crucifixion time of 9 A.M in the Morning, in Hebrew time called the 3rd Hour of the Day. John shows the time of Jesus being taken away to Golgotha as 6th Roman Clock Hour.

John 19 Does not mention Crucifixion TIME, but that He was taken away and He was tortured more before hanging for Atonement for Sin after 3 Hours which also included carrying His Cross to Golgotha.

Apostle John uses Roman Time instead of Hebrew time. Hebrew Day always started from 7 Pm in the Evening to the Morning of the next day. Evening to Morning is reckoned in Genesis account of Creation in
                Genesis 1.

John 19 14 Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he *said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!” 15 So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate *said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” Mark reveals His exact Crucifixion Time, read Mark 15 The Crucifixion
22 Then they *brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.

23 They tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it. 24 And they *crucified Him, and *divided up His garments among themselves, casting]lots for them to decide what each man should take.

25 It was the third hour when they crucified Him. 26 The inscription of the charge against Him read, “THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

The Day Jesus was Crucified the Sunset set for 3 hours between 6A.M to 9 A.M in the Morning a sign of God’s Judgment on Jesus while He bore our sins on the Cross.

In Matthew 27:45 we read of a great miracle that took place during the crucifixion. A strange darkness covered the land for three hours. [See the Clock illustration given earlier in this chapter.] This darkness lasted from the sixth hour (which is _________ o’clock our time) to the ninth hour (which is ________ o’clock our time)! This is usually the brightest time of the day when the sun is the highest! In the Bible, darkness is often a symbol of the judgment of God. For example, one of the judgments on the land of Egypt was darkness (Exodus 10:21-22).

See also Zephaniah 1:15. It was during these three hours on the cross that God Himself was judging His Son and punishing Him for the sins which we have done.

Why was the cross of Christ so terrible? Many men were crucified just as Christ was, and most of these men remained on the cross much longer than Christ did. Also there have been people who were tortured and put to death by means and methods even worse than crucifixion. Other individuals have had to greatly suffer for years as a result of an injury or illness or disease before death finally came What was so terrible about the death of Christ?

If we think only of the physical sufferings that Christ went through, then we are missing the whole point. When Jesus looked ahead to the cross, what was it that He dreaded the most (Mark 14:36 and John 18:11)? Circle the correct answer:

                a. The nails that would pierce His hands and feet
                b. The spear that would pierce His side
                c. The agony of being suspended on a cross for about six hours 9 A.M to 3 P.M
                d. The cup which the Father would give Him to drink

According to Christ’s own words in Matthew 27:46, what was the most terrible part of the crucifixion experience? Circle the correct answer:

                a. Being nailed to the cross by the Romans
                b. Being mocked and reviled by the unbelieving Jews
                c. Being tortured by the weight of His own body coming down on the nails
                d. Being forsaken and abandoned by Almighty God

Christ was not overly concerned about what the Roman soldiers would do to Him, but He was greatly concerned about what God the Father would do to Him because of your sins and mine! In Isaiah chapter 53 we learn about some of the things that God did to the Lord Jesus:

Isaiah 53:24: God struck Him and afflicted Him.
Isaiah 53:6: God laid on Him all of our iniquities (sins).

              • The Shroud of Turin has different meanings for many people: some see it as an object of veneration, others a forgery, still others a medieval curiosity. For one Jewish scientist, however, the evidence has led him to see it as a meeting point between science and faith.

“The Shroud challenges (many people's core beliefs) because there's a strong implication that there is something beyond the basic science going on here,” Barrie Schwortz, one of the leading scientific experts on the Shroud of Turin, in an CNA.

Admitting that he did not know whether there was something beyond science at play, he added: “That's not what convinced me: it was the science that convinced me.”

The Shroud of Turin is among the most well-known relics believed to be connected with Christ's Passion. Venerated for centuries by Christians as the burial shroud of Jesus, it has been subject to intense scientific study to ascertain its authenticity, and the origins of the image.

The image on the 14 feet long, three-and-a-half feet wide cloth is stained with the postmortem image of a man – front and back – who has been brutally tortured and crucified.

Schwortz, now a retired technical photographer and frequent lecturer on the shroud, was a member of the 1978 Shroud of Turin Research Project which brought prestigious scientists together to examine the ancient artifact.

As a non-practicing Jew at the time, he was hesitant to be part of the team and skeptical as to the shroud's authenticity – presuming it was nothing more than an elaborate painting. Nonetheless, he was intrigued by the scientific questions raised by the image.

Despite his reservations, Schwortz recounts being persuaded to remain on the project by a fellow scientist on the team – a NASA imaging specialist, and a Catholic – who jokingly told him: “You don't think God wouldn't want one of his chosen people on our team?”

And Schwortz soon encountered one of the great mysteries of the image that still entrances its examiners to this day.

He explained that a specific instrument used for the project was designed for evaluating x-rays, which allowed the lights and darks of an image to be vertically stretched into space, based on the lights and darks proportionately.

For a normal photograph, the result would be a distorted image: with the shroud, however, the natural, 3-D relief of a human form came through. This means “there’s a correlation between image density – lights and darks on the image – and cloth to body distance.”

“The only way that can happen is by some interaction between cloth and body,” he said. “It can’t be projected. It’s not a photograph – photographs don’t have that kind of information, artworks don’t.”

This evidence led him to believe that the image on the shroud was produced in a way that exceeds the capacities even of modern technology.

“There's no way a medieval forger would have had the knowledge to create something like this, and to do so with a method that we can't figure out today – the most image-oriented era of human history.”

“Think about it: in your pocket, you have a camera, and a computer, connected to each other in one little device,” he said.

“The shroud has become one of the most studied artifacts in human history itself, and modern science doesn’t have an explanation for how those chemical and physical properties can be made.”

While the image on the Shroud of Turin was the most convincing evidence for him, he said it was only a fraction of all the scientific data which points to it being real.

“Really, it's an accumulation of thousands of little tiny bits of evidence that, when put together, are overwhelming in favor of its authenticity.”

Despite the evidence, many skeptics question the evidence without having seen the facts. For this reason, Schwortz launched the website, which serves as a resource for the scientific data on the Shroud.

Nonetheless, he said, there are many who still question the evidence, many believing it is nothing more than an elaborate medieval painting.

“I think the reason skeptics deny the science is, if they accept any of that, their core beliefs have been dramatically challenged, and they would have to go back and reconfigure who they are and what they believe in,” he said. “It’s much easier to reject it out of hand, and not worry about it. That way they don’t have to confront their own beliefs.”

“I think some people would rather ignore it than be challenged.”

Schwortz emphasized that the science points to the Shroud being the burial cloth belonging to a man, buried according to the Jewish tradition after having been crucified in a way consistent with the Gospel. However, he said it is not proof of the resurrection – and this is where faith comes in.

“It’s a pre-resurrection image, because if it were a post-resurrection image, it would be a living man – not a dead man,” he said, adding that science is unable to test for the sort of images that would be produced by a human body rising from the dead.

“The Shroud is a test of faith, not a test of science. There comes a point with the Shroud where the science stops, and people have to decide for themselves.”

“The answer to faith isn’t going to be a piece of cloth. But, perhaps, the answer to faith is in the eyes and hearts of those who look upon it.”

When it comes to testifying to this meeting point between faith and science, Schwortz is in a unique position: he has never converted to Christianity, but remains a practicing Jew. And this, he says, makes his witness as a scientist all the more credible.

“I think I serve God better this way, in my involvement in the Shroud, by being the last person in the world people would expect to be lecturing on what is, effectively, the ultimate Christian relic.”

“I think God in his infinite wisdom knew better than I did, and he put me there for a reason.”

                • The badly charred scroll found in an ancient synagogue in Ein Gedi, Israel
                • Measuring three inches long, the parchment looked like a lump of charcoal
                • 3D CT scans revealed the burned parchment was covered in ancient text
                • It was found to contain the first eight verses of the Book of Leveiticus

Israeli archaeologists said on Monday they had discerned biblical writing on a charred 1,500-year-old parchment with the help of digital imaging and described the text as the oldest found since the Dead Sea Scrolls.

U.S. and Israeli researchers made the discovery using advanced medical and digital technology to examine the object, first unearthed 45 years ago when then-standard forensics could not decipher any script on the scroll.

"This is a really big discovery," Pnina Shor, curator at the Israel Antiquities Authority, told a news conference where the five-centimeter-long (two-inch) cylindrical object was put on display.

"After the Dead Sea Scrolls, this has been the most significant find of an ancient Bible," said Shor, referring to hundreds of ancient texts found in the late 1940s near the shores of the inland sea for whom the scrolls were named.

Scientists estimate that the Dead Sea Scrolls, widely considered the oldest written biblical fragments ever found, date to between the third century B.C. and 70 A.D.

The scroll presented on Monday was uncovered in 1970 at Ein Gedi, about 40 km (25 miles) south of the caves of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.

Archaeologist Sefi Porat, 75, co-director of the dig, said the scroll dated to around the year 600 and turned up inside the remains of an ancient synagogue, which he chanced upon while exploring ceramic tiles at the beachside site.

At the time it was found, forensics technology then used to analyze ancient finds could not discern any writing on the badly charred scroll, he said. But a few years ago he sought more help from Israeli experts handling the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Merkel Technologies, an Israeli company specializing in high-tech medical equipment, helped in the deciphering by providing micro C-T scanning, Shor said.

These findings were sent to Brent Seales, a computer expert at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Seales said he used digital imaging software to "virtually unwrap" the scroll and visualize its text, discerning what experts said were the first eight verses of the Bible's Old Testament book of Leviticus.

Shor said more research was needed to determine the full extent of text on the scroll and what lessons it might hold for biblical scholars. But she said the findings had already turned out to be far more significant than anticipated.

"The discovery absolutely astonished us. We were certain this was a shot in the dark," Shor said.

God will never let you go through anything that He doesn’t give you the power to breakthrough. When God takes you to it, He will take you through it. God took Israel to the Red Sea because He new He would make a way through it. Whatever challenges you are facing right now, His grace is sufficient for you to breakthrough. Defeat only comes when you chose to depend on yourself to overcome sin and life challenges. With God, every problem can be solved, every mountain can be climbed, every challenge can be faced, every enemy can be defeated, and every obstacle can be overcome. Whatever God allows you to go through, with His power you will breakthrough. Never be deceived by those who tell you to look in yourself for the power to breakthrough. “Look up to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Hebrews 12:2. There is power in His blood.

                    • The woman was just 19 years old when she was captured by militants from the Islamic State. Caring for her young son and pregnant with her second child, she was separated from her husband and told that she would be forced to marry a member of ISIS.

Her harrowing story is not unique, but the fact that she escaped places her in the minority of those who face the similar terror of life as an ISIS captive.

The woman's name, and that of the village where she is staying with her two children, cannot be revealed for security reasons. CNA met her during a trip to Iraq with a papal delegation led by the Pontifical Council Cor Unum March 26-29.

On the wooden door of the room where the woman speaks with the pontifical delegation, a phrase in English is embossed: “God is Lord.” The woman holds her son in the hands, while her mother-in-law is taking care of the younger child, who is now four months. Her brother-in-law sits on her right.

She sometimes takes a deep breath, and sometimes holds back her tears, as if she is living once more what happened. But she agreed to tell her story, because she wants everyone to know what happened.

In early August, Islamic State forces attacked Mahmur camp, a U.N.-run refugee camp home to some 12,000 Turkish refugees who fled in the early 1990s during the height of Turkey's conflict with Kurdish separatists. Mahmur is located in the vicinity of Erbil, and the residents there had established a school system and local government.

The attack was one of several similar military attacks in the region, part of ISIS’ major Northern Iraq offensive in the summer of 2014.

The woman said that she was taken by Islamic State militants on Aug. 5.

“As we had been aware that the ISIS forces were coming, we managed to escape,” the woman told CNA. “But those who had no opportunity to use a car moved more slowly, remained behind, and were then captured by the ISIS forces.”

She and her family were among some 3,100 people captured by the Islamic State. Of them, approximately 600 managed to escape while about 2,500 remained in the hands of Islamic State forces.

The woman recounted that “they divided into groups of male and female.”

“I was thus separated from my husband, and I have had no news of him ever since.”

After three days, Islamic State militants selected the married women and brought them into separate houses, where they stayed alone under the control of guards.

“After a couple of weeks of captivity, I was told by one of the guards that if I did not marry one of the ISIS members, they would have separate me from my child,” the woman recounted. “That very night I managed to escape.”

During the night of Aug. 28, the three guards watching her fell asleep, and she took advantage of the situation to get out of the house.

“I walked for four hours with my child, and myself pregnant. Then I was helped by an Arab family, who took me to the Peshmerga checkpoint, and I was then able to get to a refugee camp,” she said.

She then rejoined her brother-in-law and mother-in-law, who now all live together in the Dohuk governorate.

The woman’s brother-in-law told CNA: “We will always be grateful to the Peshmerga forces for helping us, but now we cannot trust anyone else. We would only trust an international force, sent to Iraq to end the war and bring finally peace.”

                    • You should be very clear in this topic as other Abraham religion misquote our bible & confuse our tradition.

When someone Quotes from the Bible make sure you read the entire chapter of the bible because it has become a new trend to misquote the bible for there own convenience for example check this verse how they misquote it.

                      "song of solomon 4:1
Look at you—so beautiful, my dearest!
Look at you—so beautiful! Your eyes are doves
                      behind the veil. "

now if you check your bible you will find that Song of Solomon 4:1 is not complete two word's are missing in it & it's a Blasphemy.

Now check the correct verse it has nothing to do with veil.

                      "song of solomon 4:1
Look at you—so beautiful, my dearest!
Look at you—so beautiful! Your eyes are doves
behind the veil of your hair!"

So I request my Christian Brother's & Sister's who is in Christ to read your bible entire chapter is preferred when people use Verses to confuse you.

Now coming to the Point covering your Face & Veil your head is two different things BOTH ARE NOT SAME.

COVERING your FACE according to Bible is only done by PROSTITUTE.

                      Genesis 38:15
When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.

Now this verse makes it very clear why a women should not cover her face God gave you a beautiful face to smile at other's & share your Joy with other's how will you share your Joyful heart only when you show your Cheerful face.

                      Proverbs 15:30
30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart,
and a good report makes the bones healthy.

Now coming to Veil when a women should Veil her head is very important in bible:

                      1 Corinthians 11:4-5
4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered shames his head.
5 Every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered disgraces her head. It is the same thing as having her head shaved.

A women should Veil her head when she pray's or Prophesies only. so women's if you read this 1 Corinthians 11 fully you will see Paul saying there no debate on this you should veil your head when you worship God.

Now this is the reason why Nun's Veil there head always because they dedicated them self to God so be clear on this info.

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead, the angels were given a small space in the cold basement.

As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, "Things aren't always what they seem."

The next night, the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had, the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.

When the sun came up the next morning, the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field.

The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel, How could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him," she accused. "The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.

"Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied. "When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it.

"Then last night as we slept in the farmer's bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things aren't always what they seem!"

Sometimes, that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way it seems they should.
