Blinded to the Light - John 1:6-10

Blinded to the Light - John 1:6-10

“God sent John the Baptist to tell everyone about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was only a witness to the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was going to come into the world. But although the world was made through him, the world didn’t recognize him when he came” John 1:6-10 (NLT).

I love the first part of this passage because it clearly points to the Light of the World and His willingness to come down to our dark, little planet to rescue us—to show us the Light. But the last sentence (verse 10) struck me right between the eyes (and broke my heart) when I read it: “But although the world was made through him, the world didn’t recognize him when he came.”

WOW! How could those people not see the Light? How could they be so blind as to not recognize their Creator, their Savior, their God? How could they not know God when they saw Him?

Then I started thinking of myself—of my own life. Throughout my life, Christ has revealed Himself to me time and time again and, for the most part, I have turned a blind eye to His glory. Oh, sure, I know and love Him, but how many times have I been too busy to really get to know Him in the wonderfully intimate way He yearns for? How many times during my busy day do I say, “I’ll pray later,” “I’ll read the Bible tonight,” “I’ll spend time with God tomorrow.”

How many times a day does God whisper to me, “I’m right here, Randy. Do you see Me holding my arms open for you? Do you see the sacrifices I’ve made for you? Do you see Me yearning to hold you tight? Do you see Me?”

WOW! How can I not see the Light? How can I be so blind as to not recognize my Creator, my Savior, my God? How can I not know God when I see Him?
