Benjamin Marshall Documentary to Premiere Today at Chicago's Gene Siskel Film Center

    A documentary depicting the achievements of visionary Chicago architect Benjamin Marshall, "Benjamin Marshall Architect," will premiere at noon today, November 19th, at the Gene Siskel Theater, 164 N. State Street, Chicago. The event is hosted by the Benjamin Marshall Society which raised the funds to produce the film.

    Following the noon showing of the 30-minute documentary will be an hour-long panel discussion entitled
    "Tear that Wall Down: Raze the Old, Make Room for the New." Panelists will include Chaz Ebert, CEO of Ebert Companies; Carroll William Westfall, former chair of the School of Notre Dame Architecture; John W. Rutledge, CEO and Founder of Oxford Capital, LLC; Mary Brush of Brush Architects, LLC. The moderator is Cynthia Vranas-Olson, Director of the Mies van der Rohe Society. A second showing at 2pm will be followed by a reception in the theater’s café.

    Benjamin Marshall was a flamboyant, early 20th century figure whose works shaped much of Chicago’s architectural heritage. His designs included the apartment buildings lining East Lake Shore Drive, the Drake Hotel, the Edgewater Beach Hotel, the Blackstone Hotel and the Shubert Theater, as well as the iconic 1550 N. State Parkway apartments,and many others.
