Frames Film Festival 2013: Framing a decade, celebrating a century

Gone are those days when you have to go to the doorsteps of the moguls of Mumbai to make movies. Digital technology has made it possible to get yourselves heard but the problem of tomorrow is going to be not to make films but to have them screened’ were the words of Mr. Mahesh Bhatt 8 years ago when he came to SIES College (Nerul) to inaugurate Frames Film Festival. Several years later, Frames Film Festival, one of the largest undergraduate Film Festivals in the India, continues to provide a platform for amateur filmmakers to display their talent.

Frames Film Festival

Frames has come a long way since the time it started a decade back by the Mass Media Department of SIES College, Nerul. This year RAM GOPAL VARMA is inaugurating the 10th Frames Film Festival and releasing an exclusive 15 minute footage of his upcoming movie ‘The Attacks of 26/11’. Directors like Vikramaditya Motwane of Udaan fame and Rajesh Mapuskar of Ferrari ki Sawaari, Editors like Deepa Bhatia and writers like Rommel Rodrigues have confirmed their presence at Frames this year.

Frames would be held from 31st January to 2nd February, 2013. It will showcase movies across India as well as across the globe. In the past, over 75 colleges have sent in their entries for Frames including the New York Film Academy and London Film School. The jury for these entries comprised of various prominent personalities from the film industry. Anurag Kashyap, Madhur Bhandarkar, Mahesh Bhatt, Tarun Mansukhani, Luke Kenny, and many others have graced Frames. This year too we welcome dignitaries from the film industry to Frames Film Festival.

The well-known director and screenwriter Anurag Kashyap says, ‘Frames Film Festival is a great showcase for all the emerging filmmakers from schools and colleges’. Frames, therefore is a perfect platform for undergraduate filmmakers who are looking for a place to get noticed by the Film fraternity. Frames gives them an opportunity to interact with filmmakers, actors, writers and other professionals. There are 5 categories of films screened at Frames: Documentaries, Short Films, Ad Films, Animation Films and Music Videos.

Frames has been associated with quality film-making. This year is no different. Frames Film Festival celebrates a decade; this appropriately coincides with the 100th year of Indian Cinema as well. Therefore, Frames Film Festival 2013 is expected to be much grander, bigger and better than ever before.
